Dr. Gary Threatt has been called as Pastor to Mechanicsville Baptist Church. Dr. Threatt received his Master of Divinity and Doctor of Divinity from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary. Pastor Threatt, and his wife Becky, have previously served in the Richmond area, Texas, and North Carolina.
Dr. Threatt is the Director of BRIDGE2ETHIOPIA. Dr. and Mrs. Threatt work together to lead teams from the US and Ethiopia to serve in meeting the physical and spiritual needs of the Menz area of the northern highlands of Ethiopia. He and Becky are certified in Trauma Healing, helping to equip individuals and churches to be a part of God’s healing process for those experiencing trauma.
Dr. Threatt is an avid runner, participating in over 20 marathons. He ran the Boston Marathon twice. His longest run was the 56-mile Comrades Marathon in South Africa and his fastest was in Dallas White Rock, which he ran in 2 hours and 38 minutes. Now, Dr. Threatt runs 25-30 miles a week, six days a week. He said, “I have been blessed to have been running since 1971. So blessed I’ve been able to do it.”
He enjoys golf and the outdoors. He is a fan of anyone who is a Christian and is a public figure, such as Tim Tebow, Scottie Sheffler, and in the past, Tom Landry and Roger Staubach. Speaking of the former two names, Pastor Threatt says, “ Sadly, I am a Dallas Cowboys fan. I have often suffered with them in the last decade or two.” He also noted that in his younger years, he played in the 16-18-year-old Babe Ruth League World Series in 1972. In 1976 he ran in the NAIA National Indoor Track Championships at Greensboro, NC.
Along with Dr. Threatt, we welcome his wife Dr. Rebecca “Becky” Threatt. Becky is an RN with a Doctorate in Nursing Practice. She is also a Certified Healthcare Simulation Educator and has served with Samaritan’s Purse as the Ministry Technical Advisor for Internal Projects with Cure International as the Director of Nursing. She has also served as an adjunct professor at VCU, teaching for the School of Radiation Sciences and assisting at the Clinical Learning Center for the School of Nursing. While in Ethiopia she served as the registered nurse at the U.S. Embassy Health Unit and taught in the Hamlin School of Midwifery. She enjoys reading novels, running, and riding horses.
Dr. and Mrs. Threatt have 3 adult children, Jared, Jesse, and Jordan, and two pets. Their dog Moses is 12 years old and according to Pastor Threatt is “the best dog in the whole world (in our humble opinion).” Their cat, Lola, walks daily with Dr. Threatt and Moses. They both enjoy being with family and friends, making new friends, and going on new adventures.
Dr. Threatt’s first Sunday at Mechanicsville Baptist Church will be Sunday, April 21st, 2024.
We look forward to serving the Lord together!
